About the EMAF

The EMA Foundation for Paper-Based Communications supports the paper-based communications industry by designing and implementing a key research and education agenda for companies in the envelope industry and the customers they serve.

The Foundations seeks to identify and analyze major trends affecting the paper-based communications industry; to position paper-based communications as a key participant in the information age; to develop key relationships with academic institutions and allied industry partners to monitor and support focused research; and to encourage career participation in the paper-based communications industry.

Sustainability

The envelopes we manufacture are made with sustainable paper products used every day by millions of people. These products are made from renewable resources and are one of the most recyclable items on the planet.

  • Over 90% of envelopes are recyclable
  • Envelopes are the most recyclable product in the mail, and household
  • Envelopes are part of the circular economy

In 2022, the paper recycling rate was nearly 68%, which held approximately steady to the 2021 rate. Nearly 50 million tons of paper was recovered for recycling in 2022. That amount could fill rail cars stretching from New York to Los Angeles nearly 3 times! – AF&PA

MARKET RESEARCH

Highlighting Consumer Preferences

The EMA Foundation recently funded a large nationwide survey of over 3,000 adults studying the preferences of adult Americans regarding paper-format bills, statements and related documents. InfoTrends, a market research firm specializing in topics related to paper, paper communications, and printing, was chosen to oversee the survey and analyze the results.
